I am a crap-ass blogger when it comes to giving my posts time to be read. Can you believe I do all of this during my day job and still manage to do all the work I’m supposed to be doing faster than my employers seem to think is possible?
I’ve been meemed! (Sidenote: How much do I love spelling that word as “meem” instead of “meme? So much.)
7 random things about me, hmm? Is it mildly amusing that I’ve been asked to do this by the one person in the world who probably not only knows every single one of these already, but can also probably predict what I’m going to write with frightening accuracy?
1. I get turned on by intelligent, animated conversations. I’m not saying I get attracted to people who can have these conversations, I’m saying I get physically turned on by them. Sometimes even if I’m not remotely attracted to the person I’m talking to. My brain is hardwired directly to my sexual organs. But Eileen, you say, everyone’s brains are hardwired to their sexual organs. That’s how the nervous system works. Well, did you get turned on by college lectures about Milton? No? Then shush.
2. Milton is hot. Also, my Milton professor in college was the first woman I’d ever had a serious crush on. She would wear pinstripe shirts that were just the slightest bit transparent, and she had these academic-type glasses, and this short spiky red hair, and this incredibly sexy hunk of a TA with an Australian accent who would follow her around everywhere. God, she was hot. I kind of wanted to be her.
3. I make clothes. I have a sewing machine set up in the bedroom, and I make the majority of my own nice clothes as well as occasionally doing pieces for other people. I briefly tried to make money selling handmade corsets of my own design, because I love good corsets and the majority of corsets are simply not good and also ridiculously expensive. Then I learned there’s a damn good reason that handmade corsets are ridiculously expensive. Then I gave this up because I decided I didn’t want to be a seamstress when I grew up, I wanted to be a writer.
4. I want to be a writer. Or rather, I’m hoping to someday make money off of what I write. In this area of my life I am a true masochist, as any writer will probably tell you.
5. I get wigged out a bit by the use of the word “Daddy” in the scene. I generally hide this very well, but I suspect that were I ever called Daddy or asked to call someone Daddy I would run screaming. This is an entirely irrelevant story in which I am pretty much entirely at fault for being a crazy over-thinking crazy person. I’m all about being confident with my age, but seriously, do people ever grow out of parent issues? Because that would be nice.
6. That was a bit heavy. Something light and fluffy then: I love classic rock. And musicals. And folk rock too.
7. I’m moving to Australia. In January.
That was not so much random as revealing. But eh. I think part of what draws people to blogging is the open invitation to make ourselves vulnerable.
I will not tag seven people, because I don’t think I know seven people who a. I could tag without seeming like a random stalker, and b. have not already done this meem. I am breaking the meem chain. So there.

I’m reading your post in the midst of a 3 am episode of insomnia, so I could be mistaken, but it strikes me that you are a really really good writer. Glad to have found you in my sleepless travels …
Eileen -
Seriously, I just love reading your blog. Seriously. I should comment on every post, but when somebody writes as well as you do, as smart as you do and as funny as you do, I get this “comment pressure” where I feel as if I have to come up with something really sharp to say.
Cough.
So, anyway, she said with sharp wit, I love reading your blog.
Thanks for writing. :)

Thank you! I think insomnia is actually a writer’s best friend.
I quite enjoy your blog as well, and I’m glad you comment-tagged me and gave me the opportunity to go find it.
Elizabeth,
Thank you? Except now I feel vaguely guilty for having inspired comments pressure. (One of the things that I did not include in my 7 random things is that I’m very very good at vaguely guilty.) Especially when my comments are usualy something like “Ohmigod Hugh Jackman *drool.*”
Yea, so maybe I didn’t comment on that post of yours because it seemed silly just to comment saying that I’d read it four times.
I think it might make you happy to know that I am all of a sudden much more interested in Christopher Meloni. :)
Ha!
You keep your hands off of Meloni. Mine all mine!
Okay, maybe I can share just a little bit……….

Just the other day I was feeling guilty in not having yet read Paradise Lost.
The idea of a dominant woman with a taste for 17th century English literature is very, um …
Richard -
Is very, um . . . what? Strange? Sexy? Unexpected?
What you should know if that I am an enormous lit geek, and I read every time period that strikes my fancy, which is many. I have a lust for 19th century French fiction in particular, and studied so much Shakespeare that I quote him accidently, and also adore both Paradise Lost and some of the new Dante translations. And the Fagles translations of Homer; god, those are good. In the meantime, my favorite lit movement is (and will most likely remain) magical realism.
You were guilty for thinking you hadn’t read Paradise Lost, while I was guilty for thinking I don’t own it. This is an oversight I very much need to correct.
Sexy.
Once on date with a guy he quoted several paragraphs by Samuel Johnson (one of my favorite writers). Doubtlessly he planned ahead but that didn’t make it one bit less hot.
Wait. What? You’re moving to Australia?
*rejoices* That means you’re going to be just over the ditch from me!
There just aren’t enough sex bloggers down here in the Antipodes – it’ll be marvellous to have another.
xx Dee
Hi Dee,
Indeed, we are moving. Although plans have altered a bit since I wrote this post, but we’ll definitely make it eventually. I’m happy to know sex bloggers in the neighborhood – makes it feel almost like I won’t be uprooting my entire life!
